Joy is God-given. Happiness is choosing the right perspective, even in unhappy times. Every morning that we’re blessed to see a new day, we have to decide what thread we’d like to sew into our day. A thread of discourse brings drama and unrest. A thread of helplessness breeds hopelessness. But a committment to focus and trust God in all situations and circumstances brings peace.
Less than two weeks into the new year, I’m already faced with disappointment. While it saddens and at times frustrates me, I’m more than okay with putting it all in God’s capable and loving hands. After all, what surprises me doesn’t take God by surprise. He sees it all. He knows the end from the beginning. More importantly, He knows and He cares. To live at peace, with joy and maintain my sanity, I must know, believe and rest in that truth.
Like a child resting in the loving arms of her father, I must allow the love of God and the promises of God to incubate me from the debilitating thread of frustration. After all, God is able to do above and beyond what we imagine or think, even when the unthinkable happens. I trust Him. So should you.
