When I was a little girl, I asked my mom, “Why can’t everyone go to heaven?” She said, “Because not everyone will like it there.” As I grew up, I understood exactly what she meant.  Heaven is not a consolation prize for dying. Heaven is a place for those people who love God, and death for them is a return to Him.

Would you want to go to someone’s house for dinner who you just didn’t like, didn’t really care for that person or anything he or she stood for? Heaven is God’s home. If you really don’t love God, why would you want to spend eternity with him there?  If you don’t believe Him and what He says, why would you want to spend eternity listening to Him and being in His presence? And if you don’t like Jesus or believe He’s God’s way into heaven as God’s word said, why would you want to spend eternity with someone you believe to be a total fraud? Heaven just won’t be the place for you.

We’ve all had many laughs about Harold Camping and his followers saying recently the world would end today, Saturday, May 21, 2011. Clearly they have not been reading their Bible. If they’d turned to Matthew 24:36, they would have read what Jesus said. “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” The Bible says no one, not even the angels in heaven, knows when the end of this world as we know it will end. If God isn’t telling the angels in heaven, i’m sure He’s not telling an 89 year-old man name Harold.

The world didn’t end today, but everyday this life ends for many people all across our country and around the world, either by violence or sickness. It’s not about when this life will end, it’s about when will we allow our lives in God to begin. I don’t do religious debates because I believe God gives everyone the freedom to choose or reject Him in this life. He hopes we all choose Him so we can do great things on this earth and one day hang out with Him forever in heaven. For those who don’t choose Him, I think He’s disappointed but understands that you’re just not that into Him or heaven.
